Ballarat Foto Biennale - 'Now + When' Urbanism

Hi guys,

I'm heading over to Ballarat to find gold on Saturday.

And by finding gold, I mean attending the Foto Biennale - particularly Gollings' and Rijavec's 'Now+When' urbanism exhibition. It's making it's first appearance in Australia at this festival and I think it'd be highly stimulating for class discussion/exchange on forward-thinking solutions for Melbourne and the city of the future...

Anywhoozle, let me know if you're interested in joining - there are already 2 redheads confirmed (myself included).

Night.

Precedents for Maddie and J2...

Chyello,

some food for thought, guys.

Jack, your mushroom/pod/garden proposal reminded me of a beautiful outdoor canopy designed for a restaurant in Spain - circular discs of Corten steel with geometric patterning - could be of some use?

Maddie - check out Herzog and deMeuron's 'Funf Hofe' in Munich, or, for that matter, any building that incorporates hanging gardens. I think Junya Ishigami did one too... maybe a hanging garden installation in the cathedral itself? Just putting it out there....

INTERIM details for TOMORROW

Dear Students,

WE hope you all had a little bit of rest over the weekend, especially after all the work you put in last week.

Tomorrow, can you please have only one PDF file per whole group so we can speed up the upload?
6pm upload please.

Tim and I are happy to confirm that we have the following guests:
Alex Matovic (Associate - Grimshaw Architects)

Jeremy McLeod (Director - Breathe Architecture)

Paul Waddell (Senior Landscape Architect / City of Melbourne - Swanston Street Development)

Robyn Hellmen (Strategic Planning - City of Melbourne)

Ian Woodcock (Melbourne School of Design)

(We also have some very good guests lined up for 4th October, we should have the last editor of Architecture Australia if we are lucky. Unfortunately we couldn't get her this time.)

We hope especially that you are progressing your individual projects so you can get significant feedback before the non-instruction period. Even if your developments are new, we recommend a full set of drawings at scale or even a model - THE AIM IS FOR FEEDBACK ON DESIGN!

We will bring wine tomorrow, if anyone can bring some food / softdrink then let us know
We wish you the best of luck, and thanks for all your diligence this week, we know it has been tough,

In between Lost and Found

Dear All,
After the comments of Thursday I am feeling a little bit in between lost and found.  I was told to keep the butterfly house and the frontage onto the Schloss to activate that laneway, but to re-think all the rest of the programme.  Does this mean to re-think the idea of designing a community centre and do something different, or just what goes into a community centre?  It feels very much like a complete start over?  Thoughts, comments, ideas and directions for inspiration are MOST WELCOME.
